Plaquemines Parish Council on Aging

Mission

As our seniors ages it presents a continued challenge for tCouncil on Aging buildinghem to care for themselves in a respectable environment. As such Plaquemines Council on Aging (PCOA) has developed various programs to assist with improving the quality of life and aging process. 

PCOA programs are available at no cost and to be eligible an applicant must be 60 years or older. 

CARE MANAGEMENT SERVICES INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

  • RESPITE CARE- Provides caregivers an opportunity to have a welcome break from care giving and some time to be able to take care of other responsibilities.
  • MEDICAL ALERT - PCOA has partnered with Acadian on call to provide emergency response assistance inside the home. 
  • PCOA CARES - Provides routine telephone calls to seniors that lives alone and/or feels isolated and can not get out due to age. 
  • LEGAL SERVICES- Provides pro bono counseling and information to seniors who many need legal advice. 
  • MATERIAL AID - Provides seniors with items such as nutritional supplements and adult incontinence supplies.
  • HEALTH PROMOTION AND DISEASE PREVENTION - A wellness service that includes exercise (physical and mental) and health screenings. This service is available with the scheduled activities if the senior centers memberships.
  • UTILITY SERVICES- "Power to Care" is an emergency utility program, sponsored by Entergy and coordinated through PCOA, to help low income seniors in their time of need with energy expenses.
  • NUTRITION EDUCATION- PCOA through each senior center provides a group learning environment for senior to learn about life style issues for the aging.
  • NUTRITION SERVICES - PCOA provides nutrition services to person/persons 60 years and older and their spouses regardless of their age:
  • CONGREGATE MEALS - Available at our site locations. Hot lunches are served. 
  • HOME DELIVERED MEALS -Hot meals are delivered to our seniors that is home bound. This service is for our elderly seniors that can not drive or get out due to age or disability. 
  • TRANSPORTATION - Available to commute to and from our senior centers, center group activities and center outings. 
  • SENIOR CENTERS -Four centers located throughout Plaquemines Parish. Each center offers recreational activities, educational, and social opportunities to seniors and /or guest.
