- What type of permit are required to build a new house?

First, you will want to check the zoning district and the flood elevation of your property to be sure you can build and to what height. You will need to apply for a building permit to build a house. If you contact the office at permits@ppgov.net we can send you a checklist of all the documents that will be require for when you apply.
- Can I act as my own contractor when building my new house?

Yes, if the new house is going to be your primary residence. You will need to submit a notarized affidavit for the state when you apply for the building permit. We can supply the affidavit form for your convenience.
- What do I need to do to have power and/or gas turned on for my existing trailer or residence?

This is called a vacancy permit. First, you will need a state licensed electrician and/or licensed gas contractor. You will need to provide proof of ownership or lease agreement for the property and a copy of the contract or letter of hire. You can give these documents to your licensed contractors to file for the permits. Once they receive their permits, they can call for inspections. Once it passes inspection, we will release the information to Entergy and/or Atmos to turn on the power or gas.
- Do I need a permit to place a new fence or replace an existing fence on my property?

Yes, you will need a fence permit whether it’s new or being replaced. You will need a survey of the property, proof of ownership, and a site plan showing the location of the fence and the measurements of the fence.
- When are flood elevation certificates required?

Flood elevation certificates or benchmarks are required almost anytime, whether you’re building a house, shed, placing a new trailer, doing renovations or repairs to your home, including shoring your foundation.
- What are the requirements when elevating a new or existing trailer or new or existing residence?

This would depend if your located in a flood zone or a non-flood zone. If you call our office or email us with the address or parcel number, we can look up that information for you. If you’re in a flood zone, you will need to provide engineer drawing of the foundation when you apply for the building permit.
- What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept check or money orders in person, but if you apply online, you can pay online with your debit or credit card.
- Do I need a permit to transfer electrical services from one name to another, for example, a new tenant moves in, and the power is still on?

Plaquemines Parish does not require a permit unless the power is off for more than six months.
