Plaquemines Parish Residents,
Hurricane Season officially began Saturday, June 1st.
Do you require transportation assistance during a tropical event evacuation? Knowing what to do during a tropical event is your best protection and your responsibility.
The
Plaquemines Parish Government Critical Transportation Needs Evacuation Plan is designed for individuals who do not have transportation to evacuate when recommended by Emergency Management planners for tropical events. A combination of bus routes and satellite collection points will be used to pick up and organize the evacuees. Plaquemines Parish Government has pre-determined several satellite collection points throughout the Parish. The locations of these sites will be release in the event of a tropical system.
All participating evacuees will be picked up at the satellite sites and transported to the Parish Pickup Point, off loaded from the buses, and registered into the evacuation process. Evacuees will then be loaded onto different buses for transfer to a shelter.
Pre-Registration for transportation assistance is available and recommended. To pre-register with us call 504-934-6940 or 504-934-6690 and leave your name, address, quantity of pets, if any (only dogs & cats) and your contact information for follow-up.
Plaquemines Parish Special Medical Needs Residents are Eligible for Assistance with Evacuation
Are you a Plaquemines Parish resident with Special Medical Needs that requires evacuation assistance during Hurricane Season?
In preparation for the 2024 Hurricane Season, we urge all individuals who have been diagnosed with conditions needing special medical attention, such as insulin therapy, oxygen therapy, dialysis, cardiac drugs/treatment, etc., to make plans and arrangements
WELL IN ADVANCE with your private physician, your clinic, and your family for treatment during a hurricane evacuation. Regular shelters, such as at Belle Chasse Auditorium or Multipurpose Center, are not equipped to handle evacuees requiring special medical attention. All Special Medical Needs patients will require a caretaker to evacuate with the patient.
Any Plaquemines Parish resident who is now totally bed bound and will require assistance during an evacuation is urged to contact us NOW to pre-register.
The Plaquemines Parish Special Medical Needs Program will now be working with the State of Louisiana for sheltering of patients meeting important criteria. The Department of Health and Hospitals has identified select facilities in Louisiana, where medical care will be given to Special Medical Needs patients.
Some of the advantages of participating with the state plan include:
• The facility will be located outside of the danger zone of the hurricane
• Medical care will be provided for all special medical needs patients during the entire duration of the storm event
• Transport by ambulance will be provided from Belle Chasse to a facility determined by DHH-OPH
Responses and/or questions, regarding this announcement are to be directed to the Plaquemines Parish Health Department at 504-934-6690.
