The Public Service Department plays a vital role in enhancing the daily lives of Plaquemines Parish residents by providing a wide range of essential services. Our team works diligently to meet the needs of the community and ensure that all public services are delivered effectively and efficiently.

Key Services Provided:

  • Street Maintenance & Repair: We ensure that parish roadways are safe and well-maintained through regular inspections, repairs, resurfacing, and pothole patching.

  • Utility Services: Our Utilities Division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of water and sewer, ensuring residents have reliable access to these essential services.

  • Engineering Services: The Engineering Division supports infrastructure development and improvement projects, including design, planning, and oversight of public works initiatives that enhance the community’s infrastructure.

  • Public Facility Maintenance: We help maintain and repair public buildings, parks, and recreational areas, ensuring that these spaces remain functional and welcoming for residents.

  1. Animal Control

  2. Plaquemines Parish is responsible for the parish ordinances and animal control while providing the following services: stray animals, animal bite cases. and etc.


  3. Buildings

    The Buildings Department employs the custodial staff for all parish buildings, as well as a small grounds crew, rents out parish buildings, etc. 

  4. Mosquito Control

  5. The Mosquito Control Department follows procedures reducing breeding sites in and around property owners through public education. The results lead to determining safe and efficient mosquito efforts while also providing services which are environmentally safe and efficient.


  6. Engineering & Public Works

  7. Engineering & Public Works Department oversees all aspects of capital improvement in Plaquemines Parish. From the smallest to the largest projects, our involvement varies from project management to project design; from damage assessments to construction inspections. 

  8. Fire Services

  9. The Plaquemines Parish Fire Department is a combination department that has a mixture between career on-duty personnel and volunteers that dedicate their time to the departments whenever possible.

  10. Emergency Medical Services/Ambulance

  11. The Plaquemines Parish Emergency Medical/Ambulance services is dedicated to providing the highest quality prehospital emergency to individuals living in and visiting Plaquemines Parish.

  12. Health

  13. The Plaquemines Parish Health Department is comprised of Sanitarian Services, Public Health Nursing Services, and Code Enforcement.

  14. Permits

  15. The Permits Department oversees, manage, and document the procedures for all permit applications that involves building, mobile home, trailer, RV,  air conditioning, heating, oil, gas permit applications, etc. 

  16. Planning & Zoning

  17. Zoning laws are the laws that regulate the use of land and structures built upon it. These laws protect the health, safety, and general welfare of the people as it relates to development and land use. 

  18. Maintenance Department

    The Buildings Department oversees the Maintenance Department and its staff. The staff consists of a variety of craftsman A/C Mechanics, Electricians, Carpenters, to handle the general maintenance of parish owned facilities, etc. 

  19. Water Works

    The Water Department sets up water service for residential and commercial accounts, handles the billing and the collection of the fees for this service, etc.
